# Performance management did not need to be a once-a-year process.

Published 2026-08-06

The operating idea

The CORE Results material described a recurring problem: managers carried broad responsibilities but lacked a consistent way to observe development, record coaching and compare progress.

## A simpler definition

The approach reduced performance management to a practical sequence: define the knowledge, skills and abilities a role requires; observe those competencies in context; discuss the evidence; and measure whether proficiency changes.

That structure was intended to make feedback more specific and to keep individual development connected to organizational goals.

## Principles carried through the product

| **Specific criteria** | Assessment works better when people know which behaviors are being observed. |
|---|---|
| **Frequent evidence** | Several focused observations can be more useful than one broad annual judgment. |
| **Coaching context** | Scores become useful when they lead to a clear conversation and next action. |
| **Organizational alignment** | Competencies should connect to the work and outcomes the organization expects. |
